Over the last few years, particularly the last year and a half or two years, I have personally experienced what God meant for each of us not to conform to the ways of this world. God personally tells us in his word that His ways are not our ways which is why, as Christians; we are to transform our ways to His ways and the only way to know His ways is to be in the word of God.
This should not be controversial as Christians are called to be more as we are separated from the secular world. This is not to say that we are somehow exempt from the wickedness and evils of the world as we live in this secular world system but we are to use our God-given discern to decipher what is right and wrong. Unfortunately, not everything is black and white as we do not live in a perfect world but when we lead with God, He will give to us the right way.
Romans 12:2 reads “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” As we learn in Colossians chapter 3, when we become new creations and turn our life over to God, we are a new creation of God and we are to do all things in the glory of God which is the renewing of our mind. More so, we are to do all o thee heartedly unto the Lord!
As I mentioned earlier, I have personally experienced why God instructs us not to conform to this world as His ways are not man’s ways. The things that we do and the things that we turn to are not always good for us and while I do not speak for anyone else, I can assure each of you that God’s ways are better and with God, each individual believer is made free. We no longer have to worry about the things that shackle us to this world whether it’s fear or anxiety or depression and on and on.
For me, perhaps the most important part of all of this is the renewing of our minds. This is a simple instruction with a deep meaning and if we do so, we will be greatly rewarded but the way God rewards us does not always line up with the way we think of or perceive rewards which is why we are told to renew our mind. This is a similar concept to “born again” as we are sinful creatures that live in a fallen world and we can become creatures of this world which I have personally been through so I speak from personal experience when I emphasize the importance of renewing one’s mind.
