We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5
The word of God tells us to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Meaning to submit our thinking to God’s word. When we submit our thinking under the commands of God we steer clear of falling victim to deceitful workmen and unnecessary discord. Proverbs 9:18 says “Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.” Many meaninglessness fights come from us not discerning who carries the spirit of God and will receive His word. Therefore causing us to go back-and-forth with people who do not carry the light of God. That type of interaction is often confusion sent by the enemy to distract us from affectively preaching the gospel of Christ. Titus 3:10 says “Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.” The word of God never said go back and forth.
As emotions rise high every day on social media, many of us have fallen victim to being attacked by a random stranger over speaking the unfiltered truth of the Bible. One of the biggest mistakes we make is responding emotionally in return. I too have fallen short of God’s glory in this department over and over again. But I am getting better and so are you!
We need to remind ourselves of who we are, and where they are. We are believers of Christ and our mind is renewed in Christ, we don’t react, we respond. We must remind ourselves that when others are in their flesh, they’re having a moment. It’s not who they are, but where they are in their lives. We must be sober minded when anger in upon us, because anger is the wind that blows out the lamp of the mind. A person in their flesh is going to attack you in the natural, meaning they are going to attack what they see in you, attack your physical man. But a person in the spirit of the Lord knows no matter what the opposition is saying, they are really rejecting God’s truth and using you as the source of their anger. We can see them lashing out, but we know it’s not as personal as it feels. It is misguided emotion, the person lashing out does not know this, but you’re sober minded and should be able to see that they are oppressed spiritually. That alone should cause us to stay calm under steadfast trial.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
Yes, people are going to temp you to engage in discord. At times, it almost seems that people become worse as you become better. The more patience you show towards the situation, the more they seem to take advantage of your kindness. But God is saying, there is no need to allow their antagonistic behavior to cause you to stumble. He will not put you in a situation that you cannot stand in. We need to speak the truth in love. Speak it again and possibly shake the dust from our feet before we leave if they still reject the truth. Falling back and not responding to ignorance stops discord and arguments. Taking things to prayer stops the heart from growing bitter after misunderstandings. The word of God teaches us to let God’s word be a lamp to our feet. When we can’t see clearly, that’s when we go back to our training and remind ourselves to hold captive EVERY thought and make it obedient to Christ.
Run well.
