What’s is Evangelism?
In Christianity, evangelism is the commitment to or act of publicly preaching (ministering) of the Gospel with the intention to share the message and teachings of Jesus Christ. – Wikipedia
The NAS Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible says an evangelist is a bringer of good news (Gospel of Christ).
The definition of efficient means (especially of a system or machine) achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense. (of a person) working in a well-organized and competent way.
Simply put, God wants us to learn how to spread the gospel of Christ in a well organized and competent way.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Mark 16: 15
Every believer of Christ is called to evangelize the gospel of Christ. Whether it be vocational preaching or simply sharing your testimony so that others can hear the goodness of God, we need to spread the word. The Bible gives us instructions to go forth with the word of God spreading the truth (the gospel of Christ) grafting others in, just as God grafted us in. “Faith comes by hearing the word of God”.-Romans 10:17people need to hear the word of God because “the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart(Hebrews 4:12). God wants us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that He has commanded you. And behold, I am (God) with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20.
Wisdom & Understanding:
Before we can go make disciples of men we must first be baptized in the Holy Spirit and walking in the truth. The Bible says “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”. Matthew 7:3-5. Before you can go and correct someone else, you must make sure you’re right in God’s eyes first. Before you are preaching the truth, you must make sure you are living it.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Proverbs 4:7
All wisdom comes from the Lord, and so do common sense and understanding.
God gives helpful advice to everyone who obeys him and protects all of those who live as they should. God sees that justice is done, and he watches over everyone who is faithful to him. – Proverbs 2:6-8. If you want more wisdom, common sense, and understanding the Bible says God gives it to those who obey him (follow his word). We need wisdom because wisdom solves problems. If we are to be a light for Christ, we should be able to do more than expose darkness, but we should have solutions to solve problems and overcome by the spirit of Christ. It is the fruit of the believer, the overcoming of the believer that gives people hope and faith during the evangelical process. we need to have the wisdom to help those who are still lost.
God’s Hidden Assignments:
Every time God sends us on an assignment to Evangelize (spread the good news), it will not always look like a moment to evangelize. Many times God will send us on a hidden assignment, we think we’re going to the grocery store but God is creating a divine appointment for you to speak into someone’s life or pray for them. It happens more often than we think and this is why we will need to be able to discern what’s happening in the spiritual realm when someone is speaking to us in random conversation. Now I’m not telling everyone that every time they step outside there to evangelize or minister to a random person, but when the opportunity presents itself and you see the person is willing to accept the word of God you should proceed in evangelizing. Even simply telling someone God bless you, can leave someone having an amazing day. Use the word of God to empower, inspire, motivate, and give the word of God to people who are in need.
There are so many ways to speak to people about God and it doesn’t have to be in a traditional church setting or in a traditional way. Being a light, and leave people with the word of God to make a lasting impression.
A manifestation of emotions:
Often, when the word of God has penetrated someone you are evangelizing to you, you may see a manifestation of emotions arise in them. For example, some people can break down and cry, some people can sit quietly, and sometimes on rare occasions, people will act out and have a demonic manifestation when they are not willing to receive the word of God at the moment. The first thing you should do if someone is becoming upset, you should discern the spirit at work to see the root of the problem.
A manifestation of emotions and words of rage shows there is a deeper spiritual root and problem. If we do not discern the spirit at work we will miss the opportunity to speak life into someone and graft them into Christ. Remembering that we are only messengers and vessels when people have a demonic manifestation we should not take it personally, as we know we are in a spiritual battle with a demon and that person’s mind at the moment.
Our emotions need to be in order and we need to be able to handle an offense when we are speaking to people who do not know God yet. They may be responding at the height of their consciousness and cannot articulate what you can clearly articulate at the time, they may speak slang or even use profanity. Even though you know these things are unacceptable, can you evangelize through an offense? Can you speak life to someone who is displaying themselves as difficult to love? Do you know what to say to someone who’s on their last wind? These are all things discernment can help you spot out and wisdom will know what to say and when to say it. This is extremely vital when evangelizing efficiently.
Evangelizing through all things:
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but whose delight is in the law (ways) of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalms 1:1-2
God wants us to meditate on his word both day and night because he knows if we meditate on his word we will fully renew our minds to think like him. It’s important as a believer of Christ to feed yourself the word of God constantly because you have to feed others around you as well. If you were not filled with the Holy Spirit, and if you are not mentally well, this will affect how you evangelize the gospel of Christ and may hinder your ability to be transparent and interpersonal to graft someone in when the opportunity presents itself.
There have been many times in Christ where I have been faced with a personal (spiritual warfare) problem and I still had to get up and be a tower of strength for the people who look to me for support as a leader. I believe God sends people for us to evangelize or pour into when we are in the midst of a personal storm because he is testing our integrity and character. It is simple to serve God with a pocket full of money and when everything is going good, but will you stay on your post and serve God when you are broke when you are hungry when you don’t know your next move?
God wants us to have that type of integrity when it comes to evangelizing to his sheep. I also want to remind you that the word of God says the giver is more blessed than the receiver (Acts 20:35) so in times Where are you feel like you’ve given all you can and you’re coming up short, you have to remember the wisdom and empowerment you are instilling in other people during the evangelical process is considered giving, pouring and serving God. You’re doing very real spiritual work when you push aside your burdens and help other people in-spite of your issues. in and through all things we should be serving the Lord, giving to others, evangelizing efficiently, and creating opportunities for God’s people to come back home.
I pray this article was helpful for those who had some confusion or difficult times understanding why God is calling them to speak the gospel of Christ. And I want to empower you to continue to keep running well.
