President Trump has opened the eyes of many when it comes to fake news that is being spread by many in the media but since joining the ministry and making it a priority to study scripture, I have learned that there is a real concept of fake news among Christians and that’s the spreading of a fake Gospel. Unfortunately, there are too many people who are not aware of what’s in scripture and accept whatever they hear by those who claim to be God’s messengers.

In an ideal world, there would be no fake messengers and the Word of God would still be a priority in American life but we are far from an ideal world. Because of this, it’s never been more important to understand God’s word and the only way we can truly understand it is to be in it. After all, if we are not in God’s word than the chances of being taken away from God’s ways are ever greater and gauging by the ways of many, including myself, it’s clear to see that it’s truly time for a real awakening to God’s word.

God’s word says in 2 Timothy 3:16 that “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” and that “Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him” (Proverbs 30:5). Among many Christians, however, there is a belief that God’s word is not needed in our lives today but this couldn’t be further from the truth and we see the results of not having God as part of our lives in many aspects of daily American life.

It wasn’t long ago when my life was full of sports including the NFL and MLB and while I still dwell in nearly every aspect of baseball, the other sporting institutions have completely lost my interest as they have forgotten about the average fan and put their elitist ideas upfront. The entertainment world is the same way and we saw this on full display when Georgia’s Governor, Brian Kemp, signed the heartbeat bill that protects unborn children from being done away with and this was not received well among those in Hollywood who quickly called for a boycott of movies being filmed in Georgia but this is not surprising as they are against God’s ways: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD” (Isaiah 55:8).

Regardless of what religious denomination that you belong to, what should be forefront is the Word of God but many denominations have made their own doctrines that are not of God and while they profit greatly, financially, their souls wither and pass away like the flowers of summer during the winter months: “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8). We, as Christians, should dwell on the Word of God not because we are supposed to but because we want to but since many take man’s word as Gospel rather than studying the actual Gospel, too many are lost like many shepherd’s flocks: “[It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man” (Psalms 118:8).

Many within this church have turned away from God and put their worldly beliefs and desires before that of Christ Himself. Many proclaim that their hearts are pure with Christ and while I am in no position to judge, Christ says we know them by their fruit but they do not produce any good fruit. Christ is clear that we are to live in truth but many of us have rejected and denied truth: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). While people will be people and do as they desire, regardless of our personal beliefs, what ultimately matters is the Word of God and this is true until the end of time: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

In an ideal world, there would be no fake messengers and the Word of God would still be a priority in American life but we are far from an ideal world. Because of this, it’s never been more important to understand God’s word and the only way we can truly understand it is to be in it.”
