Different times in my life, I’ve heard teachers say that they never know the impact they may have on someone’s life and this is true for those preachers who decide to preach the word of God. Maybe you’re confused on why I used “decide” and the answer is simple: too many preachers have gone another route. Yes, they call themselves men and women of God and bring a message to you once or twice a week and show up where they are needed but not all preach the real word of God.
When a preacher does not take their messages seriously and bring to their congregation and followers a Biblical message, they are taking on the form of false teachers. Scripture talks about wolves in sleep clothing and these teachers are exactly that. Rather than doing as Christ did and rescuing their flock and help lead them to an eternal salvation, they hijack their souls like a wolf does. Matthew 7:15 warms us “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
While I am not a teacher nor am I a preacher, one of my recent writings on Passover received thank you’s because they had never heard a preacher discuss issues of the Passover. When I read the comments, I could not help but be honored that I could help someone understand such an important holiday but saddened that more preachers across the country are not focused on getting God’s word out to His people and the need for God’s word has never been greater than what we are seeing in today’s world, not just our country.
What’s even sadder is that we have a greater opportunity to reach people for God than ever before with all the advances in technology and resources that are available to the public. There have been too many preachers who have been found preaching a Gospel that does not line up with God’s word and others who add or take away from scripture. There are others who do not like to discuss different issues so they completely ignore them, focusing only what they see as important which is a watered down Gospel.
Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:16 “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” Unfortunately, too many preachers resemble what Peter says in 2 Peter 2:2, “And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” Their ways are not the ways of scripture and their teachings are not of God’s and this will leave blood on their hands as Peter continues to explain that God will only take so much: ” And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly.”
The simplest and best way to follow God’s word is to be involved in God’s word. This may not always be easy with our busy schedules and the things that come up in life but we should always do our best to make time with God. God is always there for us whenever we need Him and He is always there for us when things are good. He should not just be a lifeline in times of trouble but should be our friend and colleague at all times in our lives. Perhaps John 5:39 explains it best: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
–John 5:39
