A lot of us have tangible reminders of our “Day of Salvation.” Ex: a photo, a cross necklace, a book of the Bible, or a certificate. That’s the day I went down an old man and came up a new man. Not that we worship or idolize that object but sure is nice to look at and our heart smiles in rememberance.
Mine is a rock. I have collected rocks as long as I can remember. Moved countless times over the years. Some moves I had more rocks than personal items in the vehicle. Even if I couldn’t move them all to the next place I ventured off to on my next destination you will hear me say, “Heart Rock!”
This rock has gone to every place I have moved. It’s a special rock, the Rock I picked up on a road trip to trailblaze in the mountains of West Virginia 1993, right after accepting Jesus Christ and being baptized.
God is faithful and reminds me, once mine heart too was of stone, but he has given me a new spirit within me, a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
This last move out of our camper an hour or so later after leaving it, I said “Heart Rock!” Again, I said “Heart Rock” in a softer tone, as to tell myself, if I didn’t have it, it’s okay, it’s just a reminder. But, let me never forget:
1 Corinthians 11:24-25
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
Mine husband encouraged me, “Everything you put by the door is in truck. You put it by the door and I got it!”
John 10:9-11
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
