Regardless where you go on Earth, business is an essential part of life. Business owners depend upon customers to buy their products to stay afloat and customers depend on business owners for products of all sorts-this is supply and demand. Nobody doubts the importance of the different businesses in our lives but as Christians, we are to view business and business operations differently.

For Christians, like any other individual, we need a solid foundation whether it is as a business owner or a customer. A foundation is needed for anything to stand upright and as Christians; we need to build our foundation on God’s Word. God warns us against adding or taking away from His word as it is unwise for us to cherry pick what we feel is legitimate and then ignore other parts of scripture:

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

-Genesis 1:28, King James Version

This is an important article because we at Give Your Witness and any other ministry are in business. We do this to spread the word of God and win people to Christ but at the end of the day, what we do as Christians is a business exercise as we are in business for Christ. This is true even if money does not exchange hands because ministry is a full time operation and we must be a structure in place for the business to effectively operate.

Although we are in business, ultimately, the end outcome has to be about Christ. As Christians, we cannot lose focus what it means to be in business for Christ. We cannot go in wanting to making one million dollars and not care if we make a real difference in life. Scripture does not say that money is evil but rather, that the love of money is the root of all evil. Money is an object and is neither good nor bad but it can be used for a lot of good or a lot of bad and we must keep an important principle in mind:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

-Mark 8:36-37, King James Version

If I have a million dollars in my account and I am only half way doing this exercise for Christ than what am I really accomplishing? One lesson that I have learned since truly giving myself to Christ is we get out what we put in whether it is exercise, our diet, our relationship/marriage, and any other aspect in life. Honestly, if I have very little in my account but I am doing my best for Christ and living the best way I can then I do not have to worry about the money because it will take care of itself. More important, I do not have to worry about my soul because God has taken care of it.

This may be a principle that is overlooked by rest of the world but we cannot worry about what people think of us and the way we are living. As Christians, what truly matters is what God thinks of us and His approval. If we are only doing business for God because of the money that it may bring in then what good does it do? God knows the heart which is why we must approach each situation with the right mentality. There have been times when people thought of my life as a waste because of what I was doing with it and to many people, this is probably true but we must get out of business of living for the world and simply embrace the way of Christ:

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”

-Romans 12:2-3, King James Version
