We are truly in the middle of another presidential campaign season and the politicians are in full force. One side is promising this or that or this and that while President Trump, well, his plans have been on full display for three years now. This article is not about politics necessarily but rather, the absurdity of many of these politicians and how far they have gone to please nearly every group of the population except for the Christians.
Honestly, when we think about how people truly perceive Christians in this country, it should be a real cause for concern. One specific group of the populace that politicians are going after is the transgender community. Why? Sadly, much of the voting populace that considers itself faithful and sincere about their faith understands the moral dilemma that many of these politicians and their political stances put them in and it’s becoming clearer that voting Christians have a real dilemma on their hands and a decision to make.
My agenda here is not to sway any one person about who to vote for or what political party to align with. God Himself does not align Himself with any particular political party and while I do have my own beliefs, they are not based on a particular individual party or certain political figure but rather, the word of God: ”All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Political issues can become very polarizing and while our political beliefs are personal, we have to separate ourselves from personal and/or emotional attachments to a party or politician. This is something that I have learned as I have grown older as I was guilty of this myself and I did not hide it. However, as I look back at what I believed and the politicians that I supported and/or voted for, I am able to see that they were not always the best choice for a Christian and I know this because James 1:22 instructs us to “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Therefore, we are not only to hear God’s word but we are to listen, as well, be doers what such instructions.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
–JAMES 1:22
The transgender community was mentioned earlier and while God does not want us to harm anyone, He is clear that He made man and woman as they are. In fact, we are told that man is made in God’s image. Another group that politicians try to point out in order to garner their votes is the homosexual community. Recently, Elizabeth Warren stated publicly that “black transgender women are the backbone of our democracy” which reminds me that politicians look at people in terms of demographics such as gender and race and their geographical location rather than as human beings. The only thing this does is divide people rather than bring us together and sadly, Christians are responsible for this especially when we lead with our attachments rather than our faith.
Again, this article is not to endorse any political party or politician(s) or sway anyone away from a party or politician. Personally, I’ll be the first to admit that a two party system stinks and when this is the case, usually, you’re left with the lesser of two evils. Sometimes, we get a politician that truly stands above the murky mess of Washington, D.C. but over the last twenty five, thirty years, both parties seem to favor one another and the resemblance is scary. However, with that said, as Christians, we can rest assured that God is in control but we must stay with His word and be doers of His word: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13).
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come”
–JOHN 16:13
