History is an area that I enjoy and it’s probably safe to say that I have enjoyed history since I was a teenager. With that said, in no way am I a historian but I do enjoy learning something new and as I grow older, learning is something that I strive for. While many adhere to the adage “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” I want to defy this notion for as long as I am able.

There is much to learn living a life pleasing to God and while God’s Word never changes, the times we live do which is why we must continue to be in the Bible. Scripture is clear that learning and knowledge are crucial to a Christian’s life whether it’s history, math, English, science, and on and on: “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” (Proverbs 1:5).
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” (Proverbs 1:5).
One of the important lessons that we take away from Jesus Christ is that we are to learn from Him. That is, we are to learn from the words He spoke and the actions and deeds performed by the man. The life that Christ lived is our ultimate example of what a Christian life looks like and while the calendar changes and the things we experience are new to us, there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Because nothing is new, the way Christ lived is still relevant to our lives.
The life that Christ lived is our ultimate example of what a Christian life looks like and while the calendar changes and the things we experience are new to us, there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
In Matthew 11:29, Christ is clear when He says instructs “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” By taking up God’s Yoke, one is willing to learn God’s Word and His ways by being guided by God’s Yoke. It’s not enough to merely receive something but we must also be led and guided by the Yoke of God and this is the beginning of our learning and when we learn from God, we truly find peace and joy.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
-Matthew 11:29
