1. Mild of temper; soft; gentle; not easily provoked or irritated; yielding; given to forbearance under injuries.
2. Appropriately, humble, in an evangelical sense; submissive to the divine will; not proud, self-sufficient or refractory; not peevish and apt to complain of divine dispensations.
Christ says, “Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest to your souls.” Matthew 11.
Don’t get so caught up in pounding scripture at, with a raised voice demanding a woman to be quiet and meek.
Remember when you point a finger there are three other fingers pointing back at you.
#1 reason to not pound, demand with raised voice, is because men are to be leading in such meek and quiet manner and it wouldn’t need to be spoken. Lead a horse to water, can’t make her drink. And, if she doesn’t follow, that’s between her and God, and she very well may turn into a pillar of salt, but that you are to cover her with love. Love covers all sin. It’s a new blood covenant now. No more stones can be thrown. Jesus Christ drew that line in the sand and if you throw one stone over that line at her, you just challenged the Lord of all lords and the King of all kings. You don’t want to find yourself wrestling with the angel of the Lord on Peniel. But hey, if you do see God face to face like Jacob, I pray your life is preserved too.
Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life:
but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise:
and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
I beseech you by the meekness of Christ.
1 Corinthians 10.
Meekness is a grace which Jesus alone inculcated, and which no ancient philosopher seems to have understood or recommended.
A God fearing man is more concerned of his own words and actions above the concern of anyone else’s.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
He knows he is held at a higher standard and far greater accountability being made the shepherd of the Lord’s sheep that he will answer for if he leads them astray.
Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
