Spread the Gospel

Not the Gossip

Kristine Cucinotta Murphy

Everywhere I go, everywhere I am, there is someone spreading gossip. He said, she said. He did this, she did that.”

Matthew 15:11
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

And, it’s especially hard to refrain from this when asking someone to pray for a specific request of Spiritual warfare to call in prayer warriors of someone’s speech or behavior.

Let us make ourselves aware to refrain from saying anything that would spread gossip of any kind.

Because, just as much as there are little ears somewhere within close range to hear us speak of the Gospel, there are those that hear your seemingly harmless speech with good intentions, that are quick to run to spread gossip. We must be aware of all we say, where and how we say it, no matter our hurt or concern.

It drives mine husband batty, that I’m quiet when I talk and desire him to speak with quiet tones, especially in public, about our feelings or thoughts. Even more so that I’m always deleting messages in messenger etc. But we are called to be responsibly discreet.

This makes it hard for some to differentiate in our transparent, raw sharing in our marriage ministry, but that the LORD God is exalted and gets the glory in our weaknesses, He is our strength.

There is a time and place. Yet, no place is completely safe.

Titus 2:5
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

It is awfully difficult for a woman to be discreet when her husband is voicing his feelings and opinions all over the place. Husband’s who desire their wives to be discrete need to lead discretely and not put a stumbling block in front of her.

We don’t need anyone hearing our feelings, thoughts or come across other conversations with others or even our own.

Start listening to yourself, where you say it, how you say it and who might hear it and question yourself, does this glorify God? Am I about to exalt God and what he said or what I want to say?

Some of you know me to some extent, know I am always saying “God SAID” or asking in response to someone else questioning me “What God Said” I had to purposely practice this. I had to yeild to everything everyone said with “God Said”. There were times I immediately said, “God said” and I didn’t know what he said and tell that person “hmm, what does God say?” And look it up in Scripture right then and there with them. That’s spreading the Gospel.

My thoughts, opinions and feelings are insignificant and could cause someone to be led astray. I am held accountable for every response or comment I make and so are you.

What God said?! That’s what I need to hear. The Gospel heard that hurts is healing and life, rather than gossip heard that hurts, that is damaging and death.

The Gospel is what everyone needs to hear. It doesn’t matter who doesn’t want to hear the Gospel, we are to obey God and God SAID:

Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

So, when we are dying inside to share something or respond to someone, let it only be the very Word of God. And toss that other negative breeding life killing junk you heard or want to say into the fire. Only you can prevent gossip from spreading poison.

Acts 28:5
And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

Be loyal to those who are hurting and have come to you asking for prayer about someone who done them wrong and let it die with you. We have that authority, privilege and responsibility to. Then, turn that hurt to healing by responding with what God SAID.

Don’t get caught up in that snare of what you heard to respond by your thoughts, opinions and feelings. But, God’s Word and Holy Spirit alone. It takes discipline and training, over and over until your every immediate response becomes God’s living active word alone.

We must discipline ourselves daily to even go and make disciples as God SAID!

Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen

Scripture is Alive!
Speak Life!

2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Gentle (gentle is the word of God, harmful is gossip), loving, meek, goodness, patient, self controlled, long suffering, faith, peaceful, joy filled grace is to spread the Gospel.

Psalm 145
I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.

7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

9 The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

10 All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.
