Here recently, I have been working with numbers and although I am not great with mathematics, I find them very interesting and while many people bypass math, all of us use it in some form. If you love sports, you deal with numbers constantly and if you play the stock market or keep up with it as many around me do then you follow numbers and the same is true for politics. Another area where numbers are significant is the Bible.
Many people probably have never thought about numbers and their meaning from scripture but I have conducted different studies to understand the meaning of numbers. One of the most important numbers in scripture is the number six. In short, the number six symbolizes man’s weaknesses. Further, in creation, we were created on the sixth by God as He rested on the seventh: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27); “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day” (Genesis 1:31).
Because we know that God rested on the seventh day, finishing His creation, this symbolism of completion and/or perfection so the number six, being just one number short, is symbolism of how we are flawed and fall short of God’s glory: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Although we fall short of God’s glory, because of His perfection and His love for His creation, He forgives us and further, Jesus was accused six different times of being demon possessed (Mark 3:22, John 7:20, 8:48, 8:52, 10:20, and Luke 11:15). It is also important to point about that there are six instances in the New Testament of individuals practicing sorcery which is important because the use of such practices is on the rise.
We can discuss the number six for a few pages and while I would love to do so, this discussion will have to take place in a second part as the number six is most famously tied in with Satan especially when we discuss the end times and the combination of 666. This combination is known as the Mark of the Beast and this is not something that we can just dismiss because there is a lot happening in our world that we should be critical of especially with our system of governance as it is corrupt and deceptive and has nothing to do with God and is led by Satan: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17).
While it is no secret that man’s way of governing is usually filled with greed, corruption, and deception, let’s look at the numerical part of 666. When we multiply this number by 7 (seven days in a week or the number of perfection), we get a sum of 4,662 and when we take each individual number and add them together—4+6+6+2—we get 18 and divided by 3 is 6. There is no coincidence with such numbers and in situations so we need to keep an eye out on these events as Satan is control and should not be dismissed.
There are different times in scripture when Christ had to be harsh and tell people they were of Satan and Peter is just one example of this. Another is the Jewish leaders of the day who hated Christ and accused Him of being possessed pushed Him too far and He finally called them and there is a lot of such sentiment happening today with citizens and leading politicians: “But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men” (Matthew 16:23) and “ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not” (John 8:44-45).
