When I think over my life, I see many moments where I was lost. I was just wandering about with no real goals or sense of purpose but when I started looking up and taking directions from Christ; I was back on the right track and from these experiences, I understand that Christ is the good shepherd. He literally goes and gets His flock and this is important to remember because, by nature, sheep are not leaders but followers.
They do not have any sense of honing instincts so whatever the lead sheep does, the rest of the flock will. Think of the saying “leading the sheep to the slaughter” as it’s easy to see that doing so is not hard and if we try to be victorious in our fight on Earth, we will only find defeated but through Christ and with Christ, we are victorious if we use the door that is available to us. Imagine for just a moment the preachers who water down the Gospel or preach from the prosperity Gospel where our deeds make us rich.
The problem with such preaching is that while God can give you great riches, these riches may not always be in finances as these preachers claim. The richest person is not the one who has everything but is the one who makes the most out of everything they have. If you have a lot of money but you are miserable then you’re poor in spirit. The reason I mention such preachers is that these men and women have put God inside a box by limiting Him. That is, you must do so and so to receive this or that but that’s not how God works.
Christ tells us in Matthew 7:11 “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Here, we see that the gifts that God gives are unearned as we have sinned against God and while we are undeserving and unmerited but yet, God still gives gifts to us. This is God’s nature and it’s always been His nature but this is something people are either confused by or have completely forgotten. Simply put, when we give it all to God, He does it all for us.
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
