There is an excellent song by MercyMe named “Word Of God Speak” and this is a perfect song for all Christians. However, many people do not realize that God’s word still speaks to us. While it’s understandable that nonbelievers do not understand this but it’s sad that many Christians do not understand this concept.
Romans 10:17 informs us that “So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” It’s through our faith that we hear the word of God and it’s important for us to understand that before we can truly believe in something, we must have something to believe in and our belief comes from God’s word.
When I write whether its sports, politics, or faith, I try to make everything as simple as possible. There are many people who use big words and fancy lettering to get their message across and if that works for them, great. However, for me, I like things simple and I personally believe that God does, as well. When He wants something, He says it and when He says it, He does not sugar coat it and when He instructs us about something, He does so without confusion.
When we read the word of God, we must remember that God gives us understanding through His word: “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2;10). Too often I’ve heard nonbelievers and secular Christians say that they’ve heard the Bible from cover to cover but do not understand it so there must be something wrong with God’s word and the answer to this is obviously there is nothing wrong with God’s word but the problem is with them.
God’s word is much like the American Constitution: it does not need to be rewritten but rather, simply enforced. God’s word does not need to be rewritten to fit certain lifestyles but rather, our lives need to be rearranged to fit God’s word as sin is still sin even if society and law says it’s okay. “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof” (Romans 6:12). We must remove our attachments from this physical world and be in-depth with the spirit of God and for those people who deny the spirit exist or is a real part of God then you are not in the word of God.
When we allow for the word of God to speak, we hear it and understand it through God’s spirit and if we accept God, we have His spirit. Again, though, God’s word is like the American Constitution in that it says what it means but the problem is not with the piece of literature but the reader. Sadly, as we see with both pieces of literature, they say what they intended to say but the problem comes with the reader or the hearer in that we perceive it wrongly: “For God speaketh once, yea twice, [yet man] perceiveth it not” (Job 33:14). In other words, all we have to do is listen to hear the Word of God, Speak.
However, for me, I like things simple and I personally believe that God does, as well. When He wants something, He says it and when He says it, He does not sugar coat it and when He instructs us about something, He does so without confusion.”
