Abel Hernandez
It’s often hard to think or believe that God is with us. During this time of celebration, there’s both memories of joy and pain. For some of us, the holidays remind us of what we don’t have. We think back at the times we missed out. Those thoughts can bring lots of painful memories.
Listen brothers and sisters in Christ. Pain is inevitable. Both physically and mentally. We will go through things in life and often feel stuck. The heartbreak comes and we catch ourselves asking why? Where is God in all this? Why the pain?
Even though I realize Christmas is a time of celebrating the coming of our Lord, it’s hard not to wrap yourself up in the monetary aspect of this season. I often remember how much I didn’t have instead of being present with my loved ones now. These memories can rob us of today and put a damper on the central focus of this time.
The truth is that we aren’t missing out on anything. We have a God who is with us. Even in the times of limited and no understanding, He is with us.
Recently I was listening to a song that made me reflect on this. Some of the lyrics go as follows:
Wrapped in rags, receive the gift of heaven
With a word You bring the dead to life again
You were there form the beginning of creation
With a promise to be with us in the end
When we don’t understand
We know You’re working
For our good, For our good
We’re trusting in Your plan
Your purpose always wins
You are with us, You are with us
He was with us since the beginning of time and is with us today. He will be with us in the end and in the new world to come. He is the alpha and the omega. The first and the last. He gave us the comforter. May we recognize who this time is about and focus on the positive and not the bad. In other words, let’s focus on the gift we have in Jesus and not on what temporal things we are missing. And remember this, as the lyrics state, when we don’t understand, we know You’re working for our good.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Matthew 28:20
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Romans 8:38-39
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Matthew 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”(which means, God with us).
