Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
-Isaiah 41:10

There have been times in my life where I have struggled with the spirit of fear and anxiety. The only thing that seemed to help me get over fear and anxiety was building a stronger relationship with God. The more I would pray, the more I would read, the more God would pour into me through His Word, the more I became at ease with myself and who God has called me to be.
There are so many factors in our lives that contribute to feeling anxiety, PTSD and fear, but I assure you once you know the word of God, and know how to use it during these anxiety attacks and moments of fear, you will be able to deliver yourself from overwhelming mental breakdowns.
The Word of God says:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7
God has given us the green light to walk in power and confidence even when we petition a request and supplication in prayer. He tells us not to be anxious, meaning not to worry about it but to have full confidence in Him. When you have full confidence in the Lord, and you know His Word does not return void, there is no reason to worry about your troubles. It is only when you are trying to move on your own strength, you begin to see your own limitations, that you begin to feel anxiety and fear because you don’t know what you are going to do. The Lord is not requiring that we know the logistics of every plan in the very beginning, He’s only requiring that we have faith and believe that He can do it for us.
If you’re like everyone around the world you have been taught to be independent. Every adult in some way or another is independent in their thinking, paying bills, supporting their family, voting, making choices and decisions on their own, etc. No matter how you slice it is a form of independence. When a person is independent it becomes second nature for them to filter their problems and solve things on their own. But what if the issue is too much for them to handle? That’s usually when they begin to feel fear and anxiety.
But, the Bible teaches us, “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13). If we don’t have enough strength to handle the problem, we should take it to the Problem Solver who will either eliminate the obstacle or give us the strength to endure through it so we can learn the spiritual lesson.
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
-2 Corinthians 12:9
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7
Self-control includes not allowing your mind to run amuck on you in the form of an anxiety attack. Fear is a lack of confidence in Christ, so trust God and relax your mind. There will always be times in life where we are coming against an opponent (the spiritual enemy within a man) and we need the Lord to fight on our side. The Bible says: “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6). We need to remind ourselves of the Word of God daily and stand on His Word so that we can mentally overcome the devil’s wiles. A lot of people underestimate how the enemy, satan, works. In order to control the body, he first starts with a person’s mind. Your mental health and ability to overcome fear and anxiety are paramount in your relationship with Christ. The Bible says, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears,” (Psalms 34:4) and those are precisely the types of Bible scriptures you want to meditate on to fill your mind and heart with the Word of God to overcome your fear and anxiety. Affirm and confirm yourself in the holy Scriptures and walk in power.
I pray this short piece was helpful. Run well.
